Author, research professional and visual storyteller
I am T.G. Prasanna, an author and market research professional based in Chennai, India. I write in Tamil and English, exploring subjects that range from crime and international intrigue to history, politics, technology and human identity.
Born in Tiruchirappalli and brought up in Chennai, I have pursued an education in engineering and finance, a professional life in research, and a growing body of literary and creative work. These pursuits have given me different ways of examining the same world. Research encourages close attention to evidence and circumstance. Writing allows me to consider the people within those circumstances, their intentions, uncertainties and choices.
I am particularly interested in the forces that shape events and the lives affected by them. Behind an apparently straightforward decision, there may be competing ambitions, private loyalties or consequences that become apparent only with time. Such possibilities provide much of the ground upon which my stories take shape.
Suspense gains strength when the reader understands what a character stands to lose.
The questions behind my writing
My fiction draws upon an interest in espionage, financial crime, technological change and the exercise of power. I am drawn to stories in which an individual becomes entangled in circumstances larger than themselves, where understanding the truth may alter both their view of the world and their place within it.
Secrecy, trust and identity are recurring interests. I enjoy exploring what happens when a familiar situation becomes uncertain, when an institution conceals more than it reveals, or when a person must reconsider something they had accepted without question. These situations offer room for suspense, but also for examining character.
The wider setting matters to me. Political rivalries, commercial interests, historical events and developments in technology can influence the choices available to a character. I am interested in how those larger circumstances become personal, affecting a relationship, testing a loyalty or placing an ordinary life under extraordinary pressure.
My stories may move between Indian settings and international environments, bringing together people whose interests do not always align. Within that movement, I aim to maintain a sense of atmosphere and continuity, allowing the reader to understand the world of the story even as its mysteries deepen.
I value pace, carefully judged revelation and details that acquire significance as a narrative develops. Above all, I want the consequences within a story to feel meaningful. Suspense gains strength when the reader understands what a character stands to lose.
History, politics and public life
Alongside fiction, I write about history and contemporary politics. My interests include international rivalries, political change, the decisions of governments and the circumstances through which public institutions acquire their influence.
I am drawn to the connections between events. A political development becomes more intelligible when placed beside what preceded it, the pressures operating at the time and the choices available to those involved. Historical enquiry offers a similar opportunity to examine how decisions accumulate, sometimes producing consequences far removed from their original intention.
In approaching these subjects, I value chronology, context and factual care. I aim to make complex developments accessible while preserving the detail necessary to understand them properly.
Writing about these matters in Tamil is an important part of my work. It gives me an opportunity to bring historical and contemporary subjects into a language with a rich tradition of literary expression and public debate. I hope to encourage attentive reading, comparison and independent judgement.
Education and professional background
I studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology, followed by an MBA specialising in Finance at Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli.
These disciplines provide useful perspectives on the subjects I encounter. Engineering encourages an understanding of how systems function and how their parts depend upon one another. Finance adds questions of value, cost, incentives and commercial viability. Both are relevant to my professional work in technology market research and procurement intelligence.
My principal areas of research include IT hardware, servers, storage, data centres, cloud computing and enterprise infrastructure. I examine the markets that support modern computing, paying attention to technological developments and the commercial conditions surrounding them.
This work involves studying supply and demand, assessing supplier capabilities, analysing costs, comparing sourcing options and following changes across technology markets. It requires the ability to bring together information from different sources and explain its practical significance clearly.
My wider research experience has also included aerospace and defence, complementing my interest in international affairs and the relationship between technology, strategy and economic priorities.
The discipline of research has a place in my literary work as well. It encourages me to ask precise questions, examine assumptions and recognise the difference between a persuasive claim and a well-supported conclusion. When a subject is complicated, I find particular satisfaction in identifying a clear structure through which it can be understood.
Visual storytelling
My creative work also extends to book trailers, character introductions, cinematic imagery and other forms of visual storytelling.
I enjoy considering how an image can introduce a narrative before much has been explained. A location, a particular quality of light or a carefully chosen colour can establish mood and suggest that something remains beyond the viewer’s knowledge.
Composition and continuity matter to me. When developing a sequence of images, I pay attention to the consistency of characters, clothing, settings and atmosphere. Those details help create a world that feels coherent and recognisable.
Cinema is a continuing interest, especially its treatment of pacing, framing and visual suggestion. It offers useful ways of thinking about how attention moves through a scene. In prose, that attention can also turn inward, following a thought, an uncertainty or a memory that changes the meaning of what a character sees.
Working across words and images gives me different ways to explore a story’s atmosphere and communicate its underlying concerns.
Language, culture and perspective
Tamil language and culture hold an important place in my life. Having grown up in Chennai, I retain a close interest in the city’s cultural life, its conversations and the wider historical experience of Tamil Nadu.
At the same time, much of my reading, research and writing looks towards international subjects. I am interested in how events in one part of the world affect lives elsewhere, and how familiar human concerns take different forms across societies.
Writing in Tamil and English allows me to approach these subjects through different rhythms and registers. I want each work to feel at ease in its language, with its dialogue, descriptions and emotional tone suited to the people and places it portrays.
Across these pursuits, I value clear expression, close observation and the willingness to look again when a subject proves more complicated than it first appeared.
A place for my work and ideas
This website brings together my writing, research interests and creative projects. It offers a place to explore my work, follow new projects as they develop and learn more about the subjects that occupy my attention.
I welcome thoughtful conversations with readers, fellow writers, researchers and those interested in literary or creative collaboration.
Whether you have arrived through my writing or through a shared interest in history, technology and storytelling, you are most welcome.
